Start Point Bell Point car park, Tarwin Lower

The Bell Point Beach Walk offers a taste of the wild coastline near the mouth of the Tarwin River, within the Cape Liptrap Coastal Park. The park protects some of the most rugged and scenic coastal scenery in South Gippsland.

Highlights

  • Coastal cliffs and rock platforms — dramatic views across Bass Strait and back towards Corner Inlet.
  • Secluded beaches — Bell Point Beach is rarely crowded and offers excellent swimming when conditions allow.
  • Birdwatching — the coastal heathland supports White-fronted Chats, Hooded Plovers and Peregrine Falcons.
  • Tarwin River estuary — nearby Tarwin Lower township sits at the mouth of the Tarwin River, where the river meets the sea.

Getting There

From Meeniyan, follow the road south through Stony Creek to Tarwin Lower. The Bell Point car park is signposted from Tarwin Lower township. The drive takes approximately 45 minutes from Leongatha.

Notes

The coastal section can be exposed — bring sun protection and wind protection year-round. Swimming conditions vary; check before entering the water. The park is managed by Parks Victoria.
