A collaborative eDNA monitoring project confirmed platypus presence at six sites along the main Tarwin River stem and one tributary. The survey, conducted in partnership with researchers from the University of Melbourne, used environmental DNA sampling — collecting water samples and analysing them for platypus genetic material.
The results provide an important baseline for understanding where platypus are surviving in the catchment and will guide future riparian restoration priorities.
